TLC fans will love this one! The record breaking female group will be releasing one last album this coming summer.
In 2015, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, launched a campaign that would allow fans to help them raise money to record the new album. By the end of the campaign, $430,255 was raised by TLC fans around the world, eager to hear new music from the group who haven’t released music since the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002.
Amongst the fans, were a few celebrity like New Kids on the Block who donated $20,000 and Katy Perry who contributed $5,000. The money will go towards writing and studio sessions with producers and engineers, as well as other costs associated with making the album. As a thank you, TLC would like the fans to be involved in the naming of the album and the songs, as well as the album cover artwork.
The groups manager Bill Diggins released a statement on behalf of the women regarding the long awaited album, “We would have loved to have delivered this album sooner to you, but we are confident that you will agree that it was worth the wait when you hear it. The pursuit of excellence is never an easy task and always takes longer than expected.”
The funding account opened up in 2015, so why such a wait?
“At the time, we had no music, no producers, no writers and a few ideas. We also were in the middle of rehearsals for TLC’s first arena tour since the FanMail Tour and therefore on the road for most of the year,” the manager shares.
Needless to say, looks like we’ll be blessed with new music soon from T-Boz and Chili.
